I currently live on the west coast of Florida and work in marketing.

I was recently offered a marketing position at one of South Beach's most famous luxury hotels (make a few guesses and you'll get it right). It's pretty much a dream job (the work anyways) starting out at $42,000. Is this enough to live comfortable AND in a nice area? How much should I expect to pay in rent? Will I be able to afford living in South Beach since I'd be working there?

I am a 24 year old single, white male who has been to South Beach two different times for a week total. I absolutely loved VISITING there.

I'm worried about accepting this position and not being able to afford the cost of living.

Please help!

Rent is relative to how much space you need and where you need it.

$42K for a single, 24 year old guy, not needing a terribly large amount of space will be fine. You shouldn't have any problems affording South Beach.

Thanks, Co****1.

I'd be willing to split a nice condo with another person. From what I can tell, this would be about $1k each for rent. Is that accurate?

I've also heard that Brickell is a nice area for young professionals. Would that be too much of a drive to work (Collins Ave) in SoBe?

You can rent at south of Broward county (Hallandale & Hollywood), Aventura or North Miami Beach... Those places are more affordable under your budget. Remember, living in Miami is not the same thing as visiting. It's been my experience. I used to live in Miami, a couple months ago and I hate it, now I live in Orlando (better for my lifestyle) and I love visiting Miami especially the beach, Bayside and restaurants. Would I go back and LIVE in Miami? no

Thanks for the advice!

I too love Orlando but can't find a job in my field there.

And that's what I'm worried about. I'm not sure if visiting Miami for two weeks total is the same as living there full-time.

I'm not going to say, but it's one of the nicest ones. It's not really the point though.

I just want to know if I can afford to live in Miami Beach (comfortably) on a $42k salary haha.

It all depends, like I said. How much space do you need or want? What are you willing to settle for?

$42K and you can certainly live alone in Miami Beach.

You could also live in Brickell or Downtown. If you do either, depending on your hours, you'd be best taking the Venetian Causeway over. It's a tolled road but it's far better than sitting in endless traffic like you'll find on the MacArthur, IMO.

I really don't need that much space. Just a regular-sized closet and enough bedroom space for a queen bed. Newer amenities and close to the action would definitely be a plus.

What would a decent apartment/condo rental get me in SoBe or Brickell? $1,000/month?
