Sounds like a bargain if you ask me.

Very neat concept, that I think would work very well in South Florida, seeing as how many don't like riding with others,

ULTra - Santa Cruz - Request for Qualifications

I'm wondering how much it would be to install something like this in Miami. I also wonder about the hurricane strength. Since Santa Cruz is in CA, I'd imagine it has to be somewhat earthquake resistant, so maybe it wouldn't be a hurricane problem.

Thoughts?

I'm not sure if you're being sarcastic here or not, but it is a very good deal.

The airport link is 2.4 miles and cost around $523 million. Assuming the Santa Cruz number is in line with what one could expect to pay for 8.6 miles, instead of getting only 2.4 new miles of transit, almost 35 miles could have been gained.

Didn't have time before to look into the site too much, but some interesting things to note:

Cost per mile of single track = $7-15 million a mile

Light Rail Average Cost per Mile = $35 million

Average cost/mile of highway lanes = $20 million a mile

I have a hard time knowing whether you're being sarcastic sometimes or not

I think that's per Kilometer, cuz for miles is still a low cost.

ULTra - Costs Summary

No, it's per mile which really makes it attractive. I'm not sure whether that would build in the elevation cost, or if that estimate is for at grade construction.

Dude, you know what this means??

Any millionaire (or a group of rich friends) here in Miami can just donate their own 8.6 mile track to the city, in cash

That's crazy!!!!
