So - I should have done my homework better but I have booked a few days in South Beach during White Party week - we have 2 children (7 and 13). We are also staying close to the Jersey Shore spot - so while we would like a few days away from T-giving with the family, on the beach - I will cancel and look for something on FLL beach if general opinion is 1) its too crowded; and/or 2) lots of inappropriateness for children.
But I really like the idea of spending some time on the beach and hope that the party people sleep late and we can just keep different hours?
Thoughts?

You can go to the Hammocks beach then, very children friendly.

Actually no, there is a friendly beach all along the 70's and parking is not difficult to find.

PS: WHITE PARTY RULZ

Winterfront - I have stayed away from SoBe on any event week/ends as traffic is usually horrible on a regular weekend - if you have been there during WP - is the traffic/crowds unbearable - or is it do-able?

Just try to stay away from SOBE is traffic is your main concern.

I have never been, but if you're really concerned book something either out on Key Biscayne or around the Bal Harbour/Surfside area

Wow, you might see people in love, holding hands and kissing. That is a terrible thing for children to be exposed to...Maybe this could be an opportunity for education about people who date people of the same sex.

But, aside from my point of view...I don't think that your kids will be exposed to anything inappropriate. And don't forget to go to the Zoo Miami, they have some great exhibits there, rent a biks for all of you to ride, that is the best way to see the zoo. Go to Key Biscanyne as well. Enjoy your time here, the weather is perfect.

Hi Jasper - my nannies are a married same sex couple - so homophobia is not my issue. My children are well aware of what it means to be gay and have spent time with a number of our friends who are in various stages of same sex relationships. My concern is inappropriate conduct in overabundance without regard to sexual orientation.

No, that won't happen. Miami is pretty tame. I went to the Gay Pride Parade this year, and was actually stunned at how sedate it was, I am used to San Francisco.

The "gay" beach is down by the Palace on 12th, in SOBE, so most of the events would be in that area. Stay north, there is plenty of beach. And most of the gay people here are pretty laid back, and discrete. Nothing too crazy...Go to the website about the white party, and you will see where the main events are to stay clear as those are probably more adult venues anyway.
