According to Cat Power everyone hates Miami

This interview dates back to 2006

Cat Power: Really? I won 350 bucks the other day on that, black 13.

Fred: Bob Dylan straight up said no. He said, "Why would I do that?"

Here we go. So Chan, where do you live?

Cat Power: I choose to live in Miami.

Fred: You don't live in Miami.

Cat Power: I do. On the South Beach.

Fred: Whom do you hang out with there?

Cat Power: Well my friend from high school had a baby 10 years ago, when I started visiting her there. Three years ago she was selling her apartment, and so I put a mortgage down on it. I got sober, and two months before I got sober I moved to New York, so I hang out with the neighbors.

Fred: I feel like Miami is way, way too hot.

Cat Power: Oh, but I'm Southern.

Fred: So you're used to it. I can't stand--

Cat Power: It's like sunny and 70, but all year long.

Fred: I meant no insult to the people of Miami. It's a good city.

Brandon: Do you get caught up in all the NBA fever? [ The Miami Heat won the 2006 NBA Finals- Ed. ]

Cat Power: I'm sure it's the same in Detroit, but it's such a spectacle. But after the year Miami had, well, everyone hates Miami, so I think that they love that team so much, and they ****ing kick ass.

Ben Wallace is my favorite player. So when NBA playoffs come, that is a really exciting time for me.

What do you guys think?

I personally don't feel comfortable on the way he referred to Miami at first: "You don't live in Miami" ... sounds a bit like: what the hell are you doing there out of all places?... even if it was only about warm weather that's no way to talk about a place.

I think he was talking about the Heat, not the city.

Who is Cat Power?

When I think of cat power I think of hooking a fish on a string, dangling it in front of my cat and having him run on a treadmill to generate electricity for me... oops.

I think of cat power as bulldozers, generators and the like.

Seriously though, it sounds like they're referring to the Miami Heat basket ball team when he says "Everyone hates Miami."

everyone from my work's corporate seems to hate miami. one guy actually stopped mid-sentence, paused and asked me 'is it worth it?'
i didnt know how to answer. i dont really have a choice growing tropical plants. florida is really the only viable option unless you go ex-pat because hawaii is extremely expensive with no jobs and puerto rico has no jobs either which is why every other flight is headed for orlando.

A solution for Miami hit and run drivers -- maybe.
