I'm flying in this weekend, picking up a car, and headed out of Fountainbleau Monday morning around 10am to drive up north out of state.

Ultimately I want to be on the 95 obviously - but is the Ronald Reagan going to be of any help at all - and how much would is cost to use it only to circumvent the beach cities area and then get back on the 95 north? Is the 95 going that way just bad all the time? I don't mind slow - just hopefully not gridlock or 25mph construction zones. (I'm also a bit concerned about being stuck on the RR too long and missing the 95N turn off.)

I'll be connecting to either one from the 826/Palmetto.

avoid Die-95. take turnpike north and cut over to 95 in fort pierce (what we like to call Port Fierce because it sounds more menacing!)

By Ronald Reagan do you mean the Turnpike (I've never heard anyone use the former before)? It also depends where you're going--it'd be worth it to go up the Turnpike if you're going toward Central Florida/I-75, but I-95 should be fine at that time otherwise.

A1A all the way to Palm Beach cut over to I-95, good way to avoid Miami-Fort Lauderdale traffic.

Doesn't A1A have stoplights all along the way? I don't think any interstate in the US has traffic that would be worse than enduring that for 100 miles.

If you're going north Monday A.M., traffic is usually a breeze on I-95. The Palmetto north to Golden Glades will be more backed up than I-95 north thru Broward and Palm Beach.

The turnpike will maybe shave 10 minutes off your drive if you take it Golden Glades interchange in Miami to Indiantown Road in northern Palm Beach, and for the privilege you'll shell out roughly $7.00 or so in tolls.

Same. Maybe the members of the legislature who shoved it through in 1998 call it Reagan, but otherwise I've never heard it. Reagan didn't give two flips about Florida. Plenty of right leaning legislatures across the country were in desperation to name things after Reagan in the late '90s, after Clinton was re-elected.

This state is so ridiculous. They spend time passing stupid legislation

No one calls that road Ronald Reagan. I didn't even know until I read it here... And I drive that road often. I prefer to call it the Tollpike. It's faster but my God the tolls are expensive.

Thanks everyone - got it! FWIW Google maps call it the Ronald road - so not being from there it's all I knew it by other than the number. Sounds like it's probably worth a try, and save myself $7. :-)
