Hi,

My husband just accepted a position in Miami, by the airport. We are a family 5 - 10yr old son, 5yr old daughter and 3 yr old son, and are from NH. We would be looking at renting a house, but I am very concerned about location and finding a family friendly community. We are very active in our Catholic Church and would love to find an area with an active church community. Commuting would be a possibility, but I don't know what the traffic is like down there. My husband currently communtes into Boston and travels about an hour each way.

Thank you for any suggestions.

Miami Springs is a very good suggestion. Very close to the airport, small-town feel. The Catholic church there is Blessed Trinity.

Coral Gables is another good option, though considerably more expensive than Miami Springs, and less family oriented.

For family friendly, you may want to try Miami Lakes. It's farther from the airport, but it's an extremely family-oriented community. They've got tons of activities/events for kids, seniors, etc., etc. The church there is Our Lady of the Lakes; I grew up attending that church.

This may be late, but ITA with Miami Lakes as long as you stay towards the center of town. We moved here a year ago and there are parks all over the place within walking distance, the Library does story hour, easy access to grocery stores, etc. The only downside I've heard is that the HS sucks. Our Lady of the Lakes puts on a few big festivals a year, and other Protestant churches also do small fall festivals, etc.

The only downside would be the commute. Although if your husband is used to an hour each way it wouldn't be too bad.

Might not be a bad idea to look at places like Cooper City, West Miramar, Pembroke Pines, and others in Broward County depending on your price range.
