That house was once in a movie but I can't remember the name. The outside is nicer than the inside. The inside has a lot of character and craftsmanship but the floor plan isn't good.

I would love to see the inside of that place, do you know how old it is?

I'm all for preserving history, but then again random people aren't allowed to just stroll into Star Island to see the house. So, what's the point of keeping the old house? Let her go ahead and have the house demolished.

Doggiebus the house was built in 1915 and attached is a link to an interesting story about the house and its previous owners and another link that shows some pics of the house.

Miami has become uninhabitable for ordinary people (which in South Florida means those living on less than 500K per annum) who must put stock in geography for personal and familial and communal heritage, and this sort of thing underscores how and why.

God? Hopefully you meant "good"

One thing that nobody has mentioned is the damage salt/Miami climates/marine environments can do to older homes especially after the home has suffered even partial damage.

One project they should save is the old Miami Marine Stadium on Key Biscayne.

That place should have never closed. It is the largest cantilevered concrete roof structure in the world. It was deemed unsafe after hurricane Andrew but has stood there for 20 years abandoned and has not collapsed or deteriorated structurally. It is mainly all cosmetic with the exception of some spalling. It is now going to take more money to restore it and return it to its former glory than if it would have been renovated after Andrew. Another waste and bad move by our city.

You guys will be happy to know that the Marine Stadium is going to be restored. A non profit group called "Friends of the Miami Marine Stadium" have started to raise money to restore the stadium. There is a e-mail from the group this past April and here are some excerpts :

On March 8th, the Miami City Commission approved the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Friends of Miami Marine Stadium, Miami Sports and Exhibition Authority, and the City of Miami to create a partnership to prepare plans for the restoration of the Marine Stadium.

Under the terms of the MOU, Friends of Miami Marine Stadium has just six months to develop a plan specifying the amount of land needed, and a financial and operating plan. We also must raise the necessary funds for restoration of the Stadium within a two year period (no City funds are to be used). We estimate restoration costs to be approximately $30 million and we have about $10 million in commitments so far.

Finally, we would like to thank the many Miami Marines who either showed up for the Hearing or emailed the Commission. One Commissioner told us that his office received more emails on this issue than any other he had seen. Your efforts made a big difference!

This is what vandals have done to the stadium :
