Sounds like a 3rd world country to be honest, like Colombia or Honduras...

I would say a huge turnoff to me in Miami is the mix between the Kardashian wannabe culture and the Scarface imitators! Everyone is playing like they are rich with no means of employment, plenty of "$5" millionaires, renting everything and trying to live the life. Wealth is math folks, if you are a bartender making $1,000 a week....great but let's not try to be the 5th or 6th Kardashian sister and spend everything only to end up with nothing at the end of the month!
Strivers exist in all major cities.....here in Atlanta we have the fake ballers and 30k a year millionaires. In NYC, it's the yuppies spending half their disposable income living in a closet within a trendy part of Manhattan. You have the shameless name-droppers in L.A. working restaurant jobs hoping to catch their big break.

Basically, anywhere with a sizable and highly visible elite class, there will be a middle and low income subset of people trying desperately to self-promote and emulate their lifestyle.

I wouldn't let these idiots deter you from enjoying what any city has to offer. I personally can't wait to enjoy Miami's beaches, and you don't have to spend a dime to do so. The best things in life are free.....only insecure idiots feel the need to assign a dollar value to everything.

I have lived in Miami for almost two years and I am counting down the days when I can say goodbye to this city.
I get it. A lot of people like it here.
I also get it. A lot of people hate it here.
That's one of the beauties of America, a plethora of choices.
But don't be mad because someone expressed why they don't like Miami. If I had learned more about the city before I made the choice to move here, I never would've made the move. All he is doing is letting people know the downside of the city. I think that is fair.

I think Miami is one of the friendliest cities I've lived. I think most people are willing to invite you into their homes in a hot minute. I loved it. I had to leave because I just could not afford the rent. I spoke zero Spanish and my search for a great paying job was getting harder and harder.

Where did you live? I find my immediate neighbors to be friendly, but everyone else that I "randomly" meet to be very rude.

Fixed. Medellin Colombia in the Poblado area looks similar to Brickell.

I spent every weekend at my friend's condo on south beach, so I certainly got a fill of South Beach. Like I mentioned, people are usually somewhat cool and patient on South Beach. But those people disappear in inland Miami, where a lot of people are incredibly rude, drive like maniacs, and have the maturity of a 10 year old. It's also 5-10 degrees hotter inland.

I did meet some cool people that I still keep in touch with, but a lot of the transplants that I met ended up moving away again. I met a lot of guys and girls at meetups. Most of the guys I met moved away elsewhere and most of the girls ended up staying. I can understand why, since women get *A LOT* of attention in Miami. I even knew a 250lb girl that got hit on every night she was out. A girl like that wouldn't even get a 2nd glance in NY.

This actually has some credence. Miami has changed extremely due to the commercialism. Miami has lost it's identity in some sorts. This was the booty shakin music mecca. Which at the time the women just liked you if you could dance. The clubs were mixed with different races and everybody was just having a good time. Fast forward to now and it's very pretentious in certain areas. You can't blame it all on the women though. It's a lot of idiots that cater to them. 20 minute ride to Broward and the women are way more independent.

The popularity of this city has changed it , it but there are still other areas you can enjoy. I think most people focus on South Beach for the most part. Good that you found a place that matched your liking instead of whimpering about how much you hate where you live.

Good post, I don't get why people are so up at arms when someone doesn't agree with their views. He didn't like it, so what.

I gave the man props for leaving. Nothing wrong with not liking a city. I don't like New York at all. Difference is I'm not living there and complaining about it.

That's the problem with people. They don't research. Whose fault is that?
