The prices are cheaper here than NYC. It's just that the incomes, for the most part, are also waaaay less, so it evens out. More opportunity if you bust your ass in NYC vs. Miami too.

It's great for people who can bring their income from NYC down to Miami, but most people can't.

Yes, i agree. I've looked at salaries in my old field (software) definitely less in South FL than in the Northeast.

For starting a business, there is plenty of opportunity in So FL. Lots of money floating around....Miami is one of the richest cities in the country.

BillS, you keep saying that NY is so much more expensive than Miami and saying Miami is expensive is horse****, but right after you acknowledge what people are trying to say, which is, the salaries here are much much lower than in NY, not to mention the difference in job opportunities and real jobs/careers. When you add all up maybe NY prices are higher but Miami is about as expensive, especially renting, which is too expensive for sure.

Now if you can come to Miami and still have the same income as you did in NY, then you'll be golden. Like I said, you're one of the lucky ones, so good for you, but that doesn't apply to the majority here.

Nominal prices in Miami are much lower than NYC. Wages are also lower for Miami based jobs (on the average), yes i agree with that.

Here are the real facts:

2012 Median Household Income: $28,301
2012 Median Family Income: $32,083
2012 Poverty rate: 31.7%

That's from the 2012 ACS/Census

Even the metro area ranks poorly compared to other metros WITHIN the US. Am I saying that Miami/Miami-Dade doesn't have wealthy people? Not at all. But it's still far from being some prosperous area.

"fell for"? easy there, drama queen.....Miami is the 4th richest city in the US....no one in this thread has presented any data that rebuts any of what i "fell for"....none of your data has any bearing whatsoever on my decision to move to Miami, or how much money i'll make, or how much i'll enjoy it

That's fine that you're deciding to move to Miami. But it's far from being a wealthy city or metro compared to other areas around the US, let alone the world. Thinking so is laughable.

Untrue - it's the 4th richest city in the US.
