Hello!

I lived in Miami for about 8 years before leaving in 2012. I was severely underpaid in my industry, but didn't realize it till I got married in Miami. I left to move to Wash., DC. I'm now working from home 100% and the thought hit me that it no longer makes sense to work from home and deal with the higher cost of living in the DC metro.

I'm preparing to relocate back to Miami. I visited last year and the city seemed to have gotten a facelift. I found SoBe to be a bit replusive, which is one of the reasons I left. I previously lived in SoFi for several years.

What areas would be good for a 30s, teleworker? My preference is access to a beach, but not too surburban. My ideal place would be "Brickell or Wynwood with a beach front".

Any areas to recommend based on the criteria?

The Edgewater neighborhood along the river between 27th and 36 streets is gettting pretty nice, but you'd still have to drive to the beach. However, a lot of those buildings have spectacular views of the Bay. I'm particularly fond of the Charter House building which is older (1970s), but has been pretty much completely remodeled. Basically, you can get a bit of a bargain there.

Otherwise, you basically have to head for the beach, and that doesn't have the same vibe.

It's so funny because was in the same predicament as you, but still living in DC. I left in April of 2013 and never even gave Miami a thought. I left after losing almost everything and the only jobs that I rated were in the DC/Northern Va area.

I actually visited in October 2016 and too noticed a difference. However, it seemed people were recovering from that period before I left. Those who were struggling to find jobs have landed some decent gigs. People are staying above water and the landscape seems really appealing- maybe it was because I had been so used to the DC area that the greenery made the difference.

I am due for moving in the next few months and I may end up in central/northern Fl this time, if not the west coast or overseas.

Ssshh, I can't really say this over in the DC forums but I effing Hate DC.

What's actually intriguing is that nothing was ever posted again on this thrread... did he ever move, or stay in DC?

That's a good question.

What do you hate about DC?

I ask because I lived in Fairfax growing up and I have a soft spot for the area. It's got to be one of the best places in the country to raise a family. Now, I probably won't ever move back, but I still like visiting from time to time. I find the whole DC area has a lot to offer, except maybe good weather.

No. In fact, he just started a new thread in the D.C. forum saying that he's confused about leaving D.C., and now appears to be considering either Atlanta or staying in the D.C. metro area and moving to Arlington, VA.
