We are two early twenty age couple moving from NY to Miami, FL or Orlando by spring 2018. What we're really looking for is a lively neighborhoods in terms of nightlife and various things/activities to do during the day where it doesn't feel repetitive quickly. We also prefer a good distance (1hour drive) to the beach, any beaches. Our budget really is $200k at max (we're looking for houses only).

$200k = Orlando, no doubt.

Decent area in Miami would be $300k and Broward would be $275k+ (maybe $250k).

You def get a lot more bang for your buck in O-town.

Honestly, you want the nightlife of Miami and the prices of Orlando.

Kind of like wanting to live in Manhattan and pay the prices of Vineland, NJ. You're going to have to decide what takes higher priority. Also, what sort of work are you both trying to do?

$200K for a house in Miami-Dade County isn't going to get you close to a decent area in Miami-Dade. At that price a townhouse in Miami-Dade if that is your max budget is much more likely. I'd suggest looking into the suburbs of Orlando if you are set on a house, you'll get way more for your money in Orlando for $200k.

Orlando has plenty of nightlife and things to do. It's better for you with that budget.

Stay in NY. I think South FL has enough of the fill in the blank. "NY is better because....."

Orlando is a NY town though.

What kind of activities are you looking for & what type of nightlife ? Due to the sheer size of Miami it will have more activities & nightlife than Orlando.
As for the beaches depending on where you live it takes about a hour to get to in either metro.
The difference is that from Orlando to the beaches it's the distance whereas in Miami it's the traffic congestion that takes up most of the time even though the beaches are a lot closer.
