It looks like downtown Miami is going to be getting its first poker room. The owners of Magic City Casino have been awarded a "summer jai-alai" permit and plan to build a new fronton and poker room at 3030 Biscayne Blvd. This will now become the closest and most convenient room for tourists and business travelers staying in downtown Miami or South Beach.

Hardly anyone, but it's cheaper (and more humane) than running a dog track. In fact, that is why Magic City is switching from dog racing to jai-alai as well. The owners of Magic City have been teaching/training ex-UM athletes to play rather than import professionals from the Basque region of Spain to further keep costs low. As you are probably aware, state law requires some sort of pari-mutual activity in order to be able to run a poker room and/or operate a "racino."

Wow, this would be amazing. Going to Magic city at night is such a dump, especially if you walk out a winner ;-)
Hialeah and Gulfstream is too far for beach and downtown residents.

I hope it happens! That block of Edgewater needs some love!
