Hello,

My husband has accepted a job in Doral and we're excited to move! I've been investigating the middle schools for our two children. This whole 'charter school' concept is brand new to me, and some of these schools look too good to be true! Does anyone have any insight into the charter schools in Doral? Or any questions I need to make sure to ask as we look for the right fit? The lottery system makes me nervous, but I guess that's how things are done in this area. I'm also a bit worried as my kids will be the new kids and it looks like very much in the minority being white. Is this a problem, or is this a pretty welcoming area?

Thanks!

Ask the charter school how long the wait list is. I don't have experience specific to charter schools in Doral itself, but further south in mid-County any charter school with a good reputation does have waiting lists well into the hundreds, if not the thousands.

So you may not be able to rely on a charter school and perhaps you should have plans B and C and D and E and F instead, such as private school, public school, online public school, home school, or some combination of those. In any case, read up on school choice laws in Florida.

Definitely ask about the wait list. The schools in Doral are very good so even if you don't get in, the public option will be great and then apply again next year.

I don't believe its super hard to get in to the school of your choice, but I could be wrong.

Real estate prices in Doral aren't as high as the Gables, Grove & Pinecrest so its still an affordable option for those that don't want to trek all the way up to Weston.
