Florida City isn't part of Homestead, they are two cities. The borders just blend into one another basically. Schools, the lowers grades are better than the High Schools in the area. The High Schools are both not the worst I think, but they are not great by any means.

The schools are awful in Florida City. Lawrence Academy Senior High Charter School is the only decent one worth considering.

Florida City is not worth living in. There are some new generic suburban communities but everything else is poverty ridden. It also has high crime rates as is far away from anything interesting. I'd avoid it.

As I recall, Florida City got blown away completely as a result of Hurricane Andrew in late Autust '92.

I live in Homestead and have been here since 1978. I would not recommend living in Florida City. Destroyed areas were re-built after Hurricane Andrew but crime is high and still filled with poverty. Homestead has grown tremendously in the past 3-5 years. There is a lot of new housing (Dade Co. building code is the strongest in the nation) on the eastern side of U.S. 1 and the turnpike. The area of the Redland, just north of the Homestead city limits, is largely agricultural, with houses on larger lots available. If you should come down to Florida City for a visit - stop and eat at Rosita's on Palm Drive. It is a great greasy spoon Mexican restaurant.

Homestead is generally nicer than Florida City. I know of NO nice areas of Florida City but Homestead has plenty of middle income, decent neighborhoods.

There actually are brand new neighborhoods in Florida City. Of course they're surrounded by the mess around them.
