Florida City is BAD!!! Just think of it this way, all the gas stations/Quick-E-Marts in that part of Dade_County shut their doors to customers when it gets dark out. You have to order through a hole in a 3" thick hunk of plexiglass that protects the cashier.

The 'nice' part of Florida City isn't big enough to have its own gas station. I would look north to Homestead, you will be sheltered from the absolute Mogadishu-ness of Florida City by the new shopping centers and the Starbucks, which act as hood-rat repellant.

44% of families in Florida City are below the poverty line. The median income for a HOUSEHOLD, is $18,000. It's tough for an individual to live off of $18,000 let alone a family. Hurricane Andrew PULVARIZED the area and it just stayed down and never recovered. What ended up happening is people have hurricane damage that can't afford repairs. Here's a blog that might interest you about Florida City though.

HOMESTEAD IS HOME: Businesses flock to Florida City

Kind of feels like they're putting lipstick on a pig if you ask me though.

Yes, there are nice new suburban developments and apartments in Florida City. However, they're all surrounded by lower income, high crime areas. I'll leave it up to you to decide if that's worth it.

If you go out west past Krome Avenue (close to Roberts Is Here Fruit Stand) there are some nicer homes that way. But you are pretty far...

Look for homes with 2 acres or more. Those areas never are depressed in any part of south Florida.

Go on SW 7th St. next time you're in Florida City. They're brand new, beautiful homes right in middle of the city.
