Bigger gov't health care system WILL = more fraud! Especially in Miami with all its hardened entrepreneurial immigrants and starving masses.

Don't you think that the same doctors who are defrauding Medicare are more than likely defrauding private insurance companies too? Fraud itself should not hold back any vital reform of our healthcare system anyway.

With gov't run anything I am more concerned about waste than fraud (as in this case). Waste also happens on a much larger scale than fraud. Every federal agency in existence is wraught with waste, why would a new federal health agency be any different?

The way I see it, gov't waste is "legalized fraud".

Steve Malanga

Experts estimate that abuses of Medicaid eat up at least 10 percent of the program’s total cost nationwide—a waste of $30 billion a year. Unscrupulous doctors billing for over 24 hours per day of procedures, phony companies invoicing for phantom services, pharmacists filling prescriptions for dead patients, home health-care companies demanding payment for treating clients actually in the hospital—on and on the rip-offs go. The cheating is brazen because scam artists have figured out that years of lax oversight have made Medicaid easy plunder.

That is exactly why expanded gov't healthcare would only mean more waste and more fraud, especially in Miami, where funds have a long history of 'disappearing'.

The U.S. could have a Universal Social Security system covering all the population, but I guess that they need a entirely different systems designed by foreigners.

There is no more waste and fraud anywhere in the Gov't then in the Military. Yet the hundreds of billions that get "allocated" are met with shrugs by everyone?

You also assume that an efficiently and effectively managed Univ Healthcare System would use the same "oversight" measures that are not adequate today.

That's a faulty assumption.

The class/elitist position you espoused in earlier responses makes me question if you honestly advocate what is in the best interest for all Americans, not merely the privileged elites. Or do you intend to replace the working class with the middle class?

Waste and Fraud can be defeated. Too many people believe they can't be.

This isn't the thread to debate military spending. Only medical fraud (in Miami).

Though this particular case headquartered in Miami, the fraud was spread across 5 states, making it more than a Miami problem. Moderator cut: Trolling

A fraud of 30 billion all across the US...
Ok, 2 billion in Florida....
Not much, considering that FLA, CAL and NY are the states with higher percentage spending on Medicare (Seniors).
