My sister and I who are 19 and 23 want to move to Miami. We are looking for a safe 2 bedroom apartment that is around 1000. Any ideas?

My suggestion would be to either up the price to around 1200 (or more), downgrade to a 1 bedroom, or look at another city. You might be able to find something in Hollywood for about $1000.

compelled is correct....1,000 will not land you in an ideal neighborhood. Move up north to Broward.

Not true in all respects, heydade.

The question depends on where you want to sacrifice to fit into that budget. There are a number of 2 bedroom apartments to be had on Miami Beach, Coral Gables, or the Kendall area for around $1000, but you're going to get what you pay for. Most likely no washer/dryer in unit, no central A/C, older interior, non-ideal parking situation, etc.

I will agree with heydade and compelled that $1200 would get you a more pleasant spot in one of these areas.

Broward is also similarly affordable...If we can ask, what are you looking to move down here for? The suitability of a particular area may depend highly on what you want to be close to.

you could try Dadeland area. A one bedroom can be found for around a grand a month excluding utilities and assessment.

Mere conjecture, jbclown! If $1500 for a 2BR is your "minimum standard" you need to take us "poor folks" take the lead on this one.

While I agree you'll want to up your range from $1000, there are a number of areas on Miami Beach, Kendall, the Coral Way area, Doral, and Miami Lakes where $1200-$1300 will get you a solid 2 BR and $1500 will get you a really nice one. Unless of course you're used to an area where everyone has a gated fence, drives a luxury car, never spits in public, and comes over to greet new neighbors with freshly baked pies. If that's what you're looking for, don't come to Miami

A blanket response labeling every apartment complex as unsafe is a falsehood.

Good luck! I hope it works out for you both! Is it worth taking a look at Craigslist to get an idea of what's available?
