Recently I learned Miami Gardens is supposed to be the biggest majority African American city in Florida..What's strange/interesting about the place is I've heard it's an combination of many smaller majority AA suburban Miami towns combined into one city...How does that work? I mean where I am we have a sister city and a few outlying sub divisionsthat can easily be annexed into one city but not at the level Miami Gardens has which sounds like a cluster of small towns more so than a real traditional.. Are that many metro Miami towns that close to eachother that they can really absorb into one another and feel like one cohesive city and what is the center/downtown of Miami Gardens? Do those former towns that were absorbed into Miami Gardens become neighborhood? I also hear the Dolphins play there football games in Miami Gardens..How far from Miami proper is Miami Gardens?

Miami Gardens was an unicorporated area of the county...made up of randomneighborhoods, not towns. It was part of the County...so it was relatively easy to incorporate.

Okay...so what were those neighborhoods considered when they were standing on their own/before incorporated into MG.

Miami neighborhoods? It's always been part of Miami Dade county.

Chelo answered your question, unincorporated Miami Dade, census designated places. We still have dozens of unincorporated areas in Miami-Dade.

what is so weird? It's all Miami. The addresses are Miami addresses. Anything in Miami-Dade is considered Miami. If it's in the city of Miami is Miami, if it's in Miami Gardens or Coral Gables is Miami. If it's in an unincorporated part of Miami is Miami. Get it?

Any home in Miami-Dade county = Miami address.

Yeah I realize all addresses in Miami-Dade are considered Metro Miami but was just saying it's funny that before those addresses/communities were incorporated into the city of Miami Gardens they were there undefined neighborhoods/cities or as you say unincorporated ...I would expect something like this from the 1700s or something when the country was just being formed not in this era.

I would say that Carol City an infamous neighborhood is now a part of incorporated Miami Gardens, however it was and still is a part of Miami-Dade county.

Miami-Dade has close to 40 independent municipalities, whether they are incorporated or not they still fall under Miami-Dade county including some but not all of the Everglades.
