The South is actually worse. (Ohio Valley) Try 4-5 months of dark grey rain/mud in the winter. 2 weeks of Spring, 4-5 months of Summer, and 1 month of Fall.

I can see the no spring aspect because I feel that way down here in the LP. I'll say we have a very short spring here because snow hangs on for so long until we finally are done with it for the year. I don't get how Marquette can have "no fall" though. I would think it must be beautiful up there in the autumn with much color in the trees.

I'll always take snow over bare ground in the winter. Never disputed that... What I really dislike are months of temps in the 30s and 40s with dark grey skies in the winter with little snow. That is just plain annoying.

I must say , about the winter . in Marquette. Its often sunny. The sun is very intense here winter and summer. My glass house faces the east/southeast, and the winter solar gain is amazing. Its quite different than the eastern shore of lake Michigan ( lived there too), yes ,there the gray sky, clouds and depressing winters in general were not of my liking. Our cold is dry. ,so you do not notice it so much. Humidity year round is very low here. The lack of temp spikes because of Lake Superior are also a plus. Much colder in Wisconsin than in Marquette, and I mean southern Wisconsin, along with Chicago.

In terms of temperature, Marquette is on average around the same temperatures in the winter as we are here in central Eastern Iowa. Quite nice, I think.

Maybe , but you do have on average higher Humidity (winter). less snow ,.. Summer , all of Iowa is of the extreme as is most of the Great Plains. Very humid and hot summers, quite cold winters. Lets not forget the tornadoes ether... All this I know , I grew up on a farm in n.central Iowa. Could not wait to get out, and I did as soon as I could afford to do so. maybe if you are close to the River and at higher elevations , your climate may be moderated a bit.
