Which is....? It doesn't matter how much of a dump the city is that you live in, as long as your kids get the American Girl Dolls and the X-Box they want for Christmas?

Yea, I've got a cousin out there (another MI transplant). He's making more as a welder than I ever made as an engineer.

And I hate to say it Magellan, but I think the Indian casino is the biggest construction project in the Traverse City area right now. Red man's revenge I call them.

Xbox?ahh,no.My little ones play outside alot, involved in a lot of church activites and sports, and the company i work for does a lot of family based activities,so video games and dolls are a big resource for kids who don't have beautiful weather to go play in,what say you?

I'm not saying that they "aren't" providing construction jobs. But casinos only do one thing, they take money from the lower middle and middle class and give it to the casino investors. Show me a city that is dependent on casinos that is prospering. Vegas is only "prospering" because of growth and growth alone, nothing sustainable. How many people in Vegas work in real estate and construction? It's about 30%. Why is Vegas leading the country in foreclosures? Why is Vegas leading the country in drops in real estate values right now? Gee, could it be because the "service" and hospitality industry that makes up the great majority of Vegas workers can't afford the housing?

The bottom line is jealousy, hate to say it,but it is the truth.Vegas is the envy of every state,if they had visionaries, they would have went the vegas route, all the tourists we have(our biggest moneymaker, contrary to popular belief)is the ass-biter for most states. You can't tell me or any other person with common sense,Michigan wishes it could have a quarter of what we get, they wouldn't know what to do

Are you actually saying that kids in Vegas don't play with X-Boxes and play outside all day? Come on MIhome, I didn't just fall off a turnip truck.

I'm glad your kids are well-rounded. Most aren't.

Well I can't speak for the entire state of Michigan, but I've been to Vegas and it was so overrated. What's up with all the little Mexican kids handing out (flipping) hooker cards on the Vegas strip? Can my kids do that? Make some extra money?

Come on MIHome. There is nothing to do in Vegas other than gambling. There is no "tourism" industry other than gambling.

You are in denial.
