I am sorry to hear your business is running into a rough patch. I hope the economy recovers so that small business owners can rebuild and expand their companies.

I agree. Companies won't want old factories that sat vacant and their histories. I've worked in a few that would require major clean ups just to open again. It's much easier to find an area where there's land and build. Plus if you build here, you're stuck with union scale. If it were me, I'd be heading to states where the union isn't strong. I don't think Michigan will bounce back any time soon.

Is experience valuable in the act doing of the work in your business? Are experienced employees valuable or are all or most of the employees merely fungible? If experienced employees are valuable and if the job is such that you have to pay livable wages and not minimum wage, what do you think will keep your contractor-employees from looking for better jobs? Will they be more inclined to job hunt now and/or to pack up and flee the state than they would have been before?

They just shovel mud at $15.00 per hour. If they can find better, bye-bye.
