Leelanau and Grand Traverse County are winners in my book (though I'll have to go to Keewenaw now to see what all the fuss is about) Sleeping Bear, Old Mission, the City by the bay....fantastic.

Mason County, Oceana, Muskegon, and Ottawa have beautiful views of Lake Michigan. The rolling hills, sand dunes, forests, streams and lakes are outstanding.

I've never really been to Harbor Springs, but I've heard it's really nice. I'm a huge Petoskey fan myself.

UP County: Keewenaw Doesn't get any better. Largest proportion of water to land of any County in the USA. Leelanau (see below) is second. Wild, beautiful country with some cool towns.
LoP County: Leelanau by a landslide. Sleeping Bear Dunes & Manitou Islands, 98 miles of Lake Michigan shoreline, tons of beautiful inland lakes rivers and streams, gorgeous Great Lakes views in 3 directions, rolling forest, orchard, & vineyard covered hills, (18 wineries and more tart cherry trees than any other county in the USA), cool coastal villages (especially Leland with Fishtown, Suttons Bay and Northport) and lots more. Everyplace in MI has beauty of many kinds...the Little Finger just has more of all of it in one place.
Can you tell I like peninsulas?

Depends what you do when you're there. If you're looking to knick knack, the store prices are indeed outrageous. If you're looking to get a hot cup o' joe and take a stroll around one of America's most beautiful small towns, as I so often do, well.......that's definitely within most people's budgets.

Taking these pics cost me nothing, for instance......
