I just accepted a job offer in Lansing starting in January and I need to find a place to stay. I've heard from a few people that Lansing has a lot of crime-ridden areas and I'm a young female that can see myself being an easy target so I'm looking for a pretty safe place to live. I'm looking to live in apartments, maybe 1 bedroom, but I would prefer to be surrounded by a lot of young adults my age (22). I've heard from one person that okemos might be a good area for what I'm looking for? Price isn't really an issue, but obviously a less-pricey place would be nice. Just looking for any insight whatsoever, thanks.

Okemos & Haslett would be fine, as would East Lansing. Apartments along Lake Lansing Road (tons of apartment complexes) will be a mix of young professionals, families, grad students etc. There are apartment complexes along the east/west of Haslett Road/Saginaw/Grand River/Jolly as well. Looking at a map, anything east of Route 127 heading out towards Okemos/Williamston would be safe...with Michigan State University here, you'll find that the population of people with college degrees is quite substantial. Any of the North/South complexes on Coolidge, Harrison, Hagadorn, Okemos, Marsh, Haslett Road would also be fine. If you don't want to be in with college students, you might want to consider Okemos or Haslett~If you're looking at any specific complexes or want more information, PM me.

Any suburb on any side of Lansing is good. Okemos, Haslett, DeWitt, Holt, Mason, Diamondale, Potterville, or Grandledge. The east side has tons of college kids. If you want a quite place, move to the westside. There are tons of aparment complexes off of W. Saginaw, between I-69/96, Cryets road, St. Joe and Willow road.

Groesbeck, east side of Lansing right where it meets Frandor (houses north of Michigan, East of Grand River Ave), East Lansing (Lake Lansing rd / Hagadorn Rd area - grad students / young professionals), Okemos, Haslett.

DeWitt, Mason, Grand Ledge, Williamston all tend to be more family oriented. Holt has pockets of young professionals in the apartment complexes, but is otherwise families.
