It's pretty amazing reading about all the "weather" some of you received.
I live in the Ypsilanti area and our first "snow" of the season fell last evening. Not much more than a dusting. Nearly all gone by this morning. I guess driving was a little rough last night from what I heard.
I work in the Toledo area and had no problems cruising down US23 at my usual 75-80 mph pace this morning. Roads were mostly dry.
This storm has been a big nothing so far around here. The usual weather/news media hype.

There was 2 plus inches on the ground last night and it was very slick wet snow. Freeway speeds were about 25-30 mph for most people. Even the loons were going no more than 40 mph. I got stuck for a while just trying to dirve on a freeway overpass (could nto get up the hill). You could not see the road at all and quite a few people drove off the road and got stuck in the shoulder/ditches. Some of those loons going 40 mph spun out and ended up in the median. It was a heavy snow, but it turned to rain this morning and everyhting melted before I woke up.

When? Where?
I went to bed about 10:00 last night and could still see the grass poking up through the snow and my grass isn't that high. My wife was coming back from Hamtramck around 9:30 and said the roads were not that bad until around Belleville.

That's OK. About time winter came around this year, we've had it easy so far.

Snowblower is gassed up and tuned up, shovels are just waiting for the kids hands, and the old Beast 4X4 is gassed are ready to go if I need to get out and do something important, like take the kids sledding.

I was in Ypsi at sidetracks for late dinner and the snow started coming down hard, then more and more until is was hard to see. By the time we got on the road it was a couple of inches deep. We had a very difficutl time finding the entrance to the freeway (could not see signs or lanes or even the road location) so we sepnt a lot of time crossing over and under and driving alongside the freeway before we found a place to get on. The freeway was 30 mph or so all the way to DTW and then it got a little bit better (40-45), by telegraph road it was a lot better but still slick. When I got home (Grosse Ile) we had maybe an inch of snow on the ground. However at the time we got out of Ypsi, it was over 2 inches, and possibly 3. We got home at a quarter past midnight (draining drive). It was one of the prettiest snows that I have seen in a while and very heavy, but all gone by morning.

That is what seems to me ot be very different in Micnigan during the past four years from when I lived here before (1963-1988). Back then the snow came and stayed. We did not seem to get as big of storms usually, but it built up and got very deep. Now it always seems to melt within a few days. or at least a week or two.

Ah yes...the iconic Sidetracks.
You have good taste my friend.
I live only about a mile and half from there. It is nice to be able to walk there during the summer. And even nicer being able to walk home after I am...uh...not in a driving condition.
If you were trying to get onto eastbound I94 by Wiard Rd. (Willow Run) I am not surpised you had trouble. We have lived here since June and I still have to pay close attention to navigate that route. It is an odd configuration, poorly signed, poorly painted lanes, etc. I can only assume it is nearly impossible in bad weather. That's why I prefer the downtown Ypsi'/S. Huron exit and entrance.

I can never find my way back to the Huron entrance because huron is one way. There are signs somewhere showing the wya, but I never seem to be able to find them. Getting in to EMU is easy getting out is a nightmare. Every visit to EMU involves a trip to sidetracks - great place. The whole area (Depot Town) is pretty neat.

Oops we were talking about snow. No snow now, but the REn Cen towers are shaking in the wind. It must be horrendous out there.
