I am planning on finishing up at a local community college and transfering to Michigan Tech in the next year or so. My fiancée and I have 2 dogs, a black lab and a lab/springer mix, and I'm having trouble finding a rental (apartment or house) that is willing to accept medium-large dogs such as the one's I have.

Does anybody have any "tricks" or hidden secrets? lol

Realtors have access to listings for rentals. Also check Craigslist. Google Michigan homes for lease with the name of the area you're interested in. Many rentals allow pets for an additional fee or deposit. It shouldn't be that hard to find one. When I was looking for a rental I found that lots of them were "pet friendly."

Mike Lahti is the big college slumlord in Houghton/Hancock He owns most of the rentals, and when I was there 2002-2005, most properties were pretty pet friendly because they were basically condemable anyway. He has some stuff on his website at Rental Properties- Keweenaw Properties (http://www.mikelahti.com/rentalproperties.html - broken link), but I would just call the office to talk to the woman there who knows everything.

You can also look in periphery areas like Dollar Bay and up Quincy hill. Lots of rentals in those areas.
