Will be going to grad school at MSU and am looking at moving into a nice home on Newton St. Can anyone give me any info as to how this neighborhood is?

Default Newton Street

Have not lived in that area, but have driven through it on numerous occasions. Not a bad area. Might be a little busy at times because you are right between the two main east/west streets in the city: East Grand River and East Saginaw. You are also pretty close to US 127. Lots of traffic on all of those streets, so there may be some noise issues. Hard to tell though, without having lived there.

You are just across the highway from the Frandor shopping center which, while it has seen better days, still has a grocery store, Sears, some restaurants and a number other shops that are close and would eliminate a need to travel further to either the Meridian Mall (East of East Lansing) or the Lansing Mall (West side). You are just south of the Eastwood Shopping Center which is relatively new and has some great restaurants and a large multiplex, if you like movies.

You are still close enough to East Lansing to get to class, without being right in town with a lot of younger people who may not, uh, "study" as hard as you do. However, if you do want to hang out there it is still close enough to do so.

Not sure about the exact bus routes, but you should be able to catch something on Grand River or Saginaw to get you to most places in town.

Overall, probably a pretty good choice (cost vs benefit) for someone like you. Hope you enjoy the Lansing area and grad school.
