I believe its a high pressure system with the counterclockwise flow funneling in cold air from Cananda. Thats the price we pay living so close to Canada where it is still relatively cold. Whenever we get a high pressure so close to canada or a low pressure that goes up west of us this time of year, they both draw in the cold air still found in Canada. Its always been this way, and always will.

Good one! Poor Al Gore, it must be rather embarassing to go out in public and fear someone will throw a snowball at him. Or be caught shivering by a camera.

If you live this far north you get cold weather. I do recall in my younger years that we had May weather much warmer than it has been for many a year now. As a kid waiting for school to be out for summer we had days of 80 degrees, and I clearly remember how we would all look out the window and wish we could be outside. Michigan sells itself when it comes to our natural beauty, but this is the issue for many when it comes to our weather. People have to ask themselves how much cold weather they want to endure then decide from there whether to stay or leave. I'm still in the process of deciding.

Welcome to Michigan. It's been like this for quite a few years now. Colder springs and summers. Must be global warming......

There was another year where I still had the heater on in June (northern Michigan) because there were days that the high was only in the 40's, and I'm not one to put the heater on until it's below 60 in the house. July that year was wonderful. However when August was just like June, I packed up and left.

More than the cold it's the gray skies that do me in, and now I live where I only have the heater on 2 months out of the year and no airconditioners either -- although sometimes the fans come in handy. A couple hundred dollars for heat and my electric bills run $55-$70 a month. I'm not an environmentalist but I like not running through many gallons of fuel just to survive.

I've run the furnace in June as well. My mother always told me the prettiest garden she ever had froze on June 24th. If I may ask where did you move to where you don't have to run the heat or AC for most of the time?
