Everyone could have simply shopped elsewhere. As you suggest.
The idea was to first clog their store aisles with filled carts, and then shop elsewhere.
I found it amazing that store employees were in favor clogging their aisles, making a loud statement, and consuming corporate man-hours in restocking, this had a larger effect on local management than a slight dip in market share from us shopping at the competition.
I'm all in favor of the approach.
Good for the employees. I'm glad I never use the "self check out" registers. I won't contribute to eliminating a job, and I find them a PITA as well. It's not like they're not making money.
I did not know this. You're right, it is very important. Talk about putting your money where your mouth is!
Thank you for posting this info. I will continue to support Sears.
As will I but please note, I said they DO give military discount, one day per month. I have no beef with them LOL but now more than ever, I think it's great that they take good care of our service people.
Our Home Depot only gives a 10% discount during certain holidays. We don't have a Lowe's or Menards but I would definately voice my opinion with the later by walking out of the store.
Y'all have to admit, though, things ARE better nowadays; I haven't heard that old joke: "What's the standard military discount? 25% more!" that was frequently heard near military bases years ago.
Yesterday I was told at HD that the 10% military discount is back :>) Sally's has discontinued it. I do not feel like giving personal information to get a "Sally's Card" for 10% off an occasional purchase.

when I lived in an area that had menards close enough to shop at I found that menards without a discount was about 15~20% cheaper than either lowes or home depot! guess if I did some shopping and found that price was 7.50 at menards or $10 AT HOME DEPOT AND LOWES BUT LOWES AND HOME DEPOT OFFERED A 10% DISCOUNT I'd actually still shop menards..

The military joke/question is still around. My daughther worked the past three summers at a military installation where they deploy soldiers and would hear it all the time.

Sigh...sorry to hear that. And I'm sure the parasites that hang their business shingles just outside the gates of military installations will never be gone, either...
We went into the city today to shop, stopped at Arbys for burgers. When I remembered that they give a 20% discount to servicemembers. Showed my ID card and got 20% off.
If Arby's didn't have the worst "roast beef" in the world, I might consider stopping in there to support them for that.
Military and former military also receive a small discount on phone services from Verizon.
