I've recently joined the Army Reserves as a 25U. I've been looking for as much information as possible on my job, so please leave any and all input you have.
Also, I will be in a combative unit, which will most likely deploy on a frequent basis. How big is the chance that I will be in the field with my unit if we deploy? Like say, I know I will be working on radios, telecomm terminals, and other communications devices. But I do NOT want to be stuck in an office or base for a large part of the time, if at all possible, which is why I chose this combative unit. I just really need more information from someone with experience on this. In a combative unit, will I be actively in field operations?
If you are sent overseas, just be prepared to DO YOUR BEST for yourself and your country. Receive ALL training prior to departure as vital tools to enhance your reactions in real wartime situation. Read FMs and ARs on 25U. Suggest to your squad leader that if by chance you are sent overseas, request to be an RTO. RTOs do plenty of field work and you'll be away from desk work for a while.......Stay positive and keep head on a swivel. HOOAH

How do you figure you will deploy on a frequent basis? Active Army unit deployments are being canceled now.
This is the reality of a commo guy on deployment: you will be in the office. You will be responsible for maintaining and trouble shooting the items you noted above. You won't be brought out because the RTO will assume your duties. Filling COMSEC can be done by the RTO as well as a few other guys on the line.
We brought our commo guy out one time to RTO for the CDR, it didn't work out very well and that was the last time we took him. LOL. It was so bad that I just let him sleep while I took over the RTO duties for the CDR because he just wasn't capable of handling the job.
From the sounds of a 25U, I'm former Navy so I don't know all the army MOS that well, but you will be working on the tactical radio & telecomm equipment and in vans depending on what your unit is tasked with. As far as being out in the field downrange I don't think your job is being out in the field so much as fixing and issuing the gear those guys need.
