That would depend on the discharge you receive. The reason for your discharge is usually irrelevant - what matters is if your DD-214 shows honorable, general under honorable, or otherwise.
If you already have the law enforcement job then I doubt they are going to look/consider the discharge unless you are a screwup and they are looking to get rid of you. Then all doors are open.
I would assume it could be relatively easy to legally fight the national guard and get them to change the type discharge. Might cost money but your decision. Also is not the national guard a state thingy? If so, state politicians are relatively easy to get in your pocket...$$$$$....
If I get chaptered out of the national guard for lying but seeking counseling for it can I lose my civilian law enforcement job.
What chapter are you (hypothetically) being pursued?
Lying is ucmj. Lying to the extent of security clearance is criminal and that could be a problem. Chapter 13 for single mother, not so much. We're guessing with so little to go on.
Not to sound like a jerk, but I hope so. We expect our police officers and other and law enforcement to set and live by a very high standard. Those who have shown their dishonesty have no business in the profession, not when they have the power that they do.
You don't provide enough information to say, nor do we know the policies of your employer, nor the conditions under which your state's Standards and Certifcation Division is allowed to pull commissions. Again, without knowing any specifics, you might possibly find yourself being labelled as a "Brady Officer," which is the end of your law enforcement career.

Or worse...because the person is no longer of use in the field, the agency - in its infinite wisdom - promotes them.

Guess I'll sound like a jerk as well but I sure hope the OP loses their LE job.
It's hard to get chaptered out of the military. Even those that try have a hard time getting chaptered.
With the way the public image of police is these days, we need good cops out there, not ones who are lying.
If you're willing to lie, what's next? Stealing, robbing, murder?
