Over the years on this site, both those questions have come up frequently. Yes to joining at 30 and pay will be what's on the chart for your rank that you start. Search military pay chart, 2015, and look for E1 with less than two years. That's a start. Recruiters are free to ask these similar type questions, any service.

Maximum age for Army enlistment is 35.
E-1 pay is currently $1,546.80 per month. Stat is what you start as normally.
I would add that in addition to your salary, you also have great benefits---- medical, dental, very inexpensive life insurance, etc. Plus you'd add in BAH and BAS allowances. So even if you only start off as an E-1, you are being compensated better than you initially think.

Great points, especially on BAH. That said, I hope that the OP has a solid skill to contribute that would increase his chances of being selected. From my understanding, he would be a less attractive candidate because he already has a family and, thus, would qualify for BAH even as an E-1 (correct me if I'm mistaken, but I thought that unmarried enlisted soldiers only qualified for BAH at E-3 or E-4 or higher?).

That is not correct.
No one has mentioned a family in this thread
Less attractive candidate? No.
I believe there is a limit on how many dependents you can have while enlisting.
Unmarried enlisted soldiers may draw BAH depending on various factors. It is usually up to the command, availability of quarters, location, etc.
A few years ago I wouldn't of worried about it. But the military has been doing a lot of downsizing and are more particular about who can enlist these days.
The best answer, go speak with a recruiter, they can tell you what your options are.
If you do have something going that need a medical waver that can be a problem.
At 5'11", 200 lbs is probably over the Army weight limit. Although not by much, and the OP would probably want to get back in shape before basic anyway.

He's over by about 10 lbs. Also it's not just weight, you have to be a able to pass the PFT.
