Our first two winters up here our snow 'removal' required no more than a pushbroom.

It was our third winter when we finally had enough snow to require using a shovel.

The following summer I bought a M/F tractor. The next 2 winters I learned to plow snow. It has been a lot of fun.

The weather is always changing, so it seems that we are in a cycle of sorts taking us into cooler winters, with slightly more snow. This spring I got a deal from my tractor dealership for a 2-stage pto-powered snow-thrower that mounts on my tractor. I have not used it yet. But it is supposed to cut a 4-foot wide path and throw the snow over 40-foot.

The deepest snow 'dump' we have seen in the past 5 winters has been 14 inches. Nothing like the storms we read about down in the snow-belt.

A little snow is not so bad, so long as you never have to touch a shovel

The local culture here is highly focused on the use of sleds. The entire state is criss-crossed with a network of sled trails. Traffic flows much faster on sled then it does on pavement, and the trails are more direct than the roads are.

Civilian teaching hospitals are usually very well equipped and your surrounded by doctors any time you go in for a procedure.

We enjoy having one nearby.
My specific need is for a Veterans Administration Medical Center.

WA is a state we would recommend for retirement. But I would also say "do your homework" with regard to where in Washington state to move. There are many difference in weather, for instance....its not all the same everywhere there.
