More than 300 members of the North Dakota National Guard are working side-by-side with community residents to
hold back the rising Red River, which fills the border between North Dakota and Minnesota. U.S. Air Force Senior
Airman Travis Besette, of the 119th Civil Engineer Squadron, center, catches a sandbag to pass along a human chain
of Airmen March 16, 2010, in Fargo, North Dakota. The North Dakota Airmen from the 119th Wing were woven in
between local high school student volunteers in sandbag lines that extended from pallets on the street and in
driveways, through garages and out back doors. The quickly rising river behind them reminded them of the urgency
of their mission. Photo courtesy DoD, photo by Senior Master Sergeant David Lipp, North Dakota National Guard.
