If you like to travel, you can beat the navy. You will see much more of the world. Much depends on where you are stationed, what type of ship if you go navy, and shore duty vs ship duty. Shore duty can be pretty much like a 9 to 5 job except its like 7:00am to 3:30pm or used to be that way. Then you are free to do pretty much anything you want as long as you are back on station and at muster in your workspace at 7:00am. On duty days, you are pretty much confined to the base for that day unless leaving is a part of your duty for that day. The smaller the ship the harder you will work so the bigger ships with larger crews are better in that regard.
An Air Force cargo plane crewman, like a loadmaster, will see more cities in a lot less time.
Not only just seeing but pulling into various ports along the way between point A and point B. Plus got to see so many sea creatures that I couldn't see from the air. The dolphins pods racing the ship, the whales and sharks, the sea snakes, the marlins jumping up out of the water, the bald eagles swooping for fish in the pacific northwest, the flying fish, and I saw the beginning of the rainbow out to sea, what an amazing sight. I can go on and on but its all good, either one would be fine.
We only have people as Dietitians who are Dietitians. A 4 year degree won't get you there.
Thanks everyone for the advice, I will be meeting with a recruiter soon to discuss my options. I want to be as knowledgeable as I can so I don't waste the recruiter's or my own time.
I know a 4 year degree doesn't make a Dietitian. The Military allows Dietitians to join once they have their 4 year degree and are applying for their internship. The current Program for Military Dietitians starts at that internship where I am trained and educated to a Master's degree level and pass my RD exam from Bayer's Military University. Dmarie123 are you a Dietitian or know someone who is? I would like to pick your brain if that's the case.
Right now I am looking for information from people who are/were Military Dietitians! I am having trouble finding these people to talk to. If anyone knows of any please point them to this discussion!
Thanks everyone I appreciate the help and words of wisdom.
Air Force or Navy: which is the right choice for me?
Ever since I could remember, my life has always been set on the military. Doing a a great thing such as serving the country is, in my opinion, the most honorable act to be done by anyone. However, I'm stuck between two branches: Navy and Air Force. Until recently, I had my heart on the Navy but my father has recently told me that i should join the Air Force instead (which I find quite funny because until recently, he and my mother were very against me even joining the military)
I'm currently 16 years old (I'll be 17 in April) and a junior in high school.
I don't have much time left to decide because I will be applying for an ROTC scholarship and I'll be taking SAT's and ACT's soon.
It'd be great to receive your feedback as soon as possible
Depends what you want...if you want more "military" then the Navy. You'll have to sacrifice more in the Navy and do lots of crummy stuff that civilians do for the Air Force. If you want less "military", less deployments, better quality of life then the Air Force would be a better choice. I've yet to hear an Air Force member say "I'd love to spend 10 months stuck on a ship at sea" like we do all the time in the Navy.
Source: 26 years in the Navy and stationed on many Air Force Bases during that time. I also have a son on active duty in the Navy. If I had it all to do over again I'd pick the Navy every time.
