Companies who try and keep jobs local (like me) sometimes are forced to have products made in China. Why?? Because people like you and your next door neighbor demand cheap goods and services. If "m 10% higher in price, people sell their sole and buy the less expensive good. If we try and keep jobs on this side of the shore are pay less then the Unions start talking about not having a living wage etc. But the reality is it's easy to lose money in many industries.

So go blame yourself and your neighbor for mandating inexpensive goods and services. Your other problem is you put every company in the same bucket.
I am neither a government employee nor unemployed. I work for a for-profit, publically-traded company. When I'm working, I leave my personal feelings behind and do my job.

I would gladly spend 10% more on American-made goods, versus that crap made in China. Also, jobs need to pay a living wage, not "less." What's the point of keeping jobs here if they pay poverty wages? If goods cost more, then so be it. At least people would have jobs to pay for the more expensive stuff.

Outsourcing to other countries should be illegal.

My only rebuttal for this argument, since we disagree basically on our ideologies, will only focus on the student loan forgiveness program. This program was created to help public service workers, i.e. those who work for a hospital, social workers, teachers, etc. It helps to offset the potential wage loss for entering a low earning career by helping students with their loans. For example, if a student wants to become a social worker for the veterans hospital because she is really interested in working with the soldiers returning from the war, this program could help her. Lets say she goes to a reputable college and leaves with $60,000 in student loan debt. Well since she is doing a service for the public, this program would offer her an income based repayment plan and any balance that she could not repay in 10 years would be taken over by the government. The same would go for a teacher in a low paying district or a nurse at a non-profit health clinic, etc. I am sorry, but in my opinion this is one of those things the government got right. Unemployment may be high, but it is challenging to get good teachers in low performing districts and qualified social workers who can get a living wage.

I don't want big government. I want HUGE government. I support single-payer health care, a social safety net for the unemployed (yes, the all-evil "welfare"), excellent schools, cheap or free college education, state-run energy services, state-run banks, heavy regulation on most industries (especially the financial industry) and a major increase in government jobs/hiring. I don't mind taxing the crap out of the rich and corporations to fund these initiatives. You may call that socialism. I call that freedom from economic tyranny, which is what the private sector would impose if government were removed from the picture.

The big corporations would slash thousands of jobs and send them to Uzbekistan for child laborers to work 18 hours per day for pennies if it would line the pockets of the fat cats. Corporations are evil. They are driven by greed and self-interest, and, left unchecked, will do a great injustice to people everywhere. The whole reason we're in this recession is "free trade" and the lack of regulation brought on by the Reagan, Clinton and Bush administrations.
The big drawback with the whole huge government thing is you eventually run out of other people's money.

This. Once everybody is working for the government it would be difficult to tax yourselves enough to pay yourselves.
