Hello,

I am planning on relocating to the Twin Cities as I will be starting a new job in downtown St. Paul. There are so many areas to live that I don't know where to start. I am looking for an apartment.

The first consideration I want is somewhere very safe. This is essential. Prefer a commute of no more than 30 minutes. Would Inver Grove Heights be good? Any other locations?

Thanks for any input, I really appreciate it.

It might help if you let us know what you're looking for in a location.

Do you want urban or suburban? What's your price range? Do you want squeaky clean or a bit of grittiness?

Inver Grove for the most part is very safe. There are a couple apartment complexes you want to avoid but other than that, it's an easy, easy commute into downtown and a safe place to live.

Hello,

Thank you for your responses. I am thinking suburban, squeaky clean works for us. More of a family oriented area. I am thinking up to around $1000/month. Other than safety I am not too picky. Thanks!

You say family-oriented, so does that mean you have a family? Is there any worry about schools? And how big of an apartment do you want? I don't know a lot about the east metro/St. Paul and its suburbs, but depending on how big you're looking for a place, $1000 could be more than plenty or come short.

If you are looking for good schools, IGH might not be the best choice. The schools are ok but there are better options close by. $1000/month might be pushing it if you need more than 2 bedrooms.

Sorry,

I should have been more specific. No kids yet, I just wouldn't mind somewhere a little more quiet. I wouldnt mind if there were families around.

2 bedrooms is what I am looking at, schools dont matter right now.

Thanks again.

IGH is a good choice then. You should be able to find a nice 2 bedroom for $1000, there are several newer places along 494-townhome style places-that will have a nice mix of singles, young couples, families, etc.

I was also going to suggest Woodbury. Not sure exactly what housing costs are there or if there are many apartments available but it's a very safe, growing suburb that would be an easy commute to St. Paul.
