Hi everyone! Thanks for the feedback. It's also great to see how folks feel so passionately about where they live.

I am interested in how schools are because we'd like to eventually buy a house and hopefully it will be in the neighborhood that we are going to rent in. However, I do realize that the definition of good schools produces lively discussions.

I'm interested in everyone's opinion, so please keep them coming. Thanks for the places mentioned already, we'll be checking them out.

Have a good evening.

If you are looking for solid schools, you'll definitely need to post what your expectations are. The divisions on this board are vast and depending on who you get, you will hear everything from "all schools are good enough" to "all city schools are horrible and filled with a bunch of future gangsters". Where your comfort zone lies on what constitutes a good school will depend on who you should be asking about the topic.

Thanks for the feedback. By good schools, I mean public schools that are a good value in that they are comparable to competitive private schools in their results. I want to know that when my child attends their school system, they will reach their full potential, and that teachers and staff there truly have the student's best interest as their goal. Primarily we're going be looking at pre-K and possibly elementary schools.

Thanks again, we're looking forward to exploring the neighborhoods that have been suggested as well as any additional suggestions.

Hmm, if you're looking for test scores that are competitive with private schools, then you should probably aim for places in the city like Minneapolis Southwest, Minneapolis South, or St. Paul Central (I believe that's the one). Otherwise, heading to the 'burbs would be another option. Most people use the public schools here because they're excellent. Few spend the money because they can get a top-notch education (probably considered top-notch even nationwide) without the tuition fees.
