We just got back from spending a week in Minneapolis. I thought I would post some of our observations from the area.

We spent about 30 minutes at Linden Hills park on Saturday evening. Every 5 minutes a massive airplane seemed to be right on top of us and it was very loud. We spent several hours at Pershing park in the Fulton neighborhood later that week, and the plane noise was much quieter. In fact, we weren't bothered by the noise at all in Fulton.

It also seems like the McMansions are more prevalent in Linden Hills compared to the neighborhoods to the south. I thought they stuck out, but most of them weren't outrageous.

I am very curious about OP's decision. Because I am also considering Linden Hills...

Kenwood is so much nicer, so much quieter, has so much less airplane noise, enjoys the same schools & is so much better in terms of location for the OP needing to be close to Uptown & DT. On their budget, I really can't imagine why anyone would choose Linden Hills over Kenwood/Lowry Hill?

Personally, I like both Kenwood & Linden Hills. Both have beautiful homes and good access to lakes & parks.
I lived in Linden Hills for 20 years. I disagree that Kenwood is much nicer. One thing I liked about Linden Hills was easy access to two commercial districts: the "downtown" at 43rd & Upton and the 44th & France area, and 50th & France isn't too far. Kenwood has a tiny commercial area with much fewer places to walk to, though Hennepin isn't a bad drive.
Linden Hills gets plane noise, but it's variable. Some Saturdays you'll have it over the park, other Saturdays not. It depends if they're taking off or landing over Mpls. There were times when it's bothersome, but IMO found the other advantages of the neighborhood to easily offset the jet noise.

It's all about personal opinion. For me, I would feel just as strongly the other way: why would anyone choose Kenwood, (for me, the quiet that some love about Kenwood, reads as "boring", although Lake of the Isles is my favorite lake and Kenwood has many beautiful houses) over Linden Hills, which has so much more in terms of businesses and activity?

I think it mostly comes down to what you, personally, find appealing in a neighborhood. And how nice to have the budget to be able to have so many options!

$950k is not a big budget in kenwood......you are going to be a lot more limited at that price than linden hills. Both areas are amazing, however. Linden hills is cuter......kenwood is richer.

I would hands down select Linden Hills. It is much more walkable to a variety of things; it is more kid friendly; close to the 50th and France area; close to major highways. IMO with children any age over 5 - there is no comparison. BTW I live in Minikahda Vista and am certain we are a flight path - if I am sleeping lightly I can tell you when its about 5/5:30 because the flights start - I notice those and perhaps a few if I am on a conference call working from home - other than that - no problem. Well worth the location. I have heard that in the Nokomis area it is much more problematic - but that doesnt appear to the in the mix for this situation.
