'77 was insanely brutal, will never forget what that felt (and even sounded) like.

^ I agree! I remember walking a mile or so to Hopkins Eisenhower HS on a day back in '77 when the air temp was 25 below or so (I think wind chill was 45 below). I still remember the crunchy sound of the snow and the low band of white clouds on the horizon.

Strange weather leading up to the winter of 77.

In 1976 we experienced the 2nd worse drought I have ever seen ( 1988 was worse)

The 1976 drought started later than the drought of 88 but rain never came as winter began.
Winter of 76-77 had snow but we had one of the earliest springs ( 1977) that I can remember.

Easter Sunday was on April 10 and it was 82 degrees and I had a deep tan from working in the fields . The small grain was already mostly seeded by April 10.

Summer of 77 was one of the best I can remember. Timely rains resulted in great crops.

Maybe we can be lucky after this miserable winter and get an early spring and a great summer like we did in 77 after that cold winter.

Winter in Houston, TX has been rough this year with several nights below freezing (along with sleet, snow and freezing rain). My friends in MN usually trend about 25 degrees colder than me, so it looks like you may be in store for a top 10 'below zero' winter the way temps have been...and you got an early start. Hope it warms soon.

I've experienced 46 out of 48 winters in MN. This year has been a piece of cake!
See 10 Day Weather Forecast for 85374 - weather.com We will be in the 80's at the end of the week after we suffer through another cold 72 degree day. I'll be back when I hear the ice is out of our lake. Last year the lake was still frozen at opening fishing. I won't make that mistake again.

I'm 32 and this is by far the coldest winter I have experienced. All these old people are acting as if below zero temps for a low every night is average when it simply is not. If it ever got to the point where every winter was like this than I would definitely move. This place isn't that great in the first place so I definitely would move.

The amount of times it's snowed is off the charts, but luckily it's been light 1-3 inch storms. I've plowed about every 3 days since start of December. My company kinda has an average of 15 plowings per year, we're near that now and December and January were our best snow months ever! The no melting and parking lot salting have been huge this year. Commercial salt is in a big shortage here, places receive 400 yards and it's gone shortly after. Target's parking lots used to be spot free, this year there's ice and snow everywhere (though they have switched vendors probably to cut costs) one reason is salt doesn't work well when it's too cold. Yes, this winter is bad compared to normal.

According to WCCO morning report...we've had the most subzero temps in 32 years (and it's only early FEB). Record for modern times is 51 days in 77-78, we've had 39 already, 60 is the all time record back in 1875-1875.
