I have a large family (2 adults 9 kids 3 are under 2 years) we have to move because ths house we are renting is being sold and every were we go they say we have to many people to live there. The fair housing act is not spacific and has grey areas when it comes to room sizes and ages of the kids. Does any one have any legal precedents they are aware of that can comment.

I believe that the rule of thumb (but not law) is two people per bedroom. Legally, a single family unit (all related) can occupy a home without limit to the number of people. In what area are you looking?

My uncle had 12 kids. They moved to a big house when the kids were a little older, but I remember them living in a 2 or 3 bedroom trailer house at one point. It was a mess! I don't remember how many kids they had at the time, but there the kids invited us to play in a room that had 2 or 3 bunk beds in it.

There is no maximum in Minneapolis, at least that's how I read this. It sounds like the landlords just don't want you there. I don't know whether or not they're allowed to do that.

In the City of Minneapolis the maximum occupancy of a one bedroom is 4 people. The city ordinance is title 12 chapter 244.
sq footage requirements are:
70 for 1 person; 90 for 2; 140 for 3; 190 for 4.
