Hi Twin City folks!

Can you help me with a gift for my mom? She's 65, smart and cultured and can pretty much afford anything she wants. She spends several evenings each week going out to eat with friends and so I thought it might be nice to buy a gift certificate to a restaurant.. thing is I don't know what's considered a great place. She likes a good beer and wine too... and atmosphere... probably considered a "foodie". She's an adventurous eater too.. she's traveled the world...

I would like to spend about $100-150.. dinner for two. Otherwise I'm at a complete lost of what to gift her.

In my opinion, Porterhouse (one in Lakeville, another in Little Canada - never been to the latter) absolutely nails the pleasant dining atmosphere. And the servers and food are top-notch. FYI - you can pick up a $100 gift certificate for Porterhouse for $75 at Sam's Club.

Also, Hell's Kitchen in Minneapolis is kitschy as hell - one look and you immediately guess that they're one of those places that puts most of their effort into marketing rather than into food. But the food is good... really good.

Spoon and Stable would be my choice, particularly if she hasn't been there yet. It just won restaurant of the year, and it's delightful!

Where does she eat out currently? Might be safer to get her a gift certificate to somewhere that you already know she likes...

By the way, I have tons of friends from Grove City. I wonder if you know any of their families...

Good suggestions so far. I'd add Travail, Restaurant Alma, Corner Table, Tilia.

My dad is from Grove City..so the above post caught my eye. Not a place that comes up much in Minnesota!

The Bachelor Farmer. Super food, amazing service, nice atmosphere, unique wine list, great cocktails in the basement Marvel Bar.
