Just out of curiosity.

Would then Eden Prairie be a step above your typical suburb like Eagan or Chaska.

Would these statements be correct.

Before someone comes in here and starts splitting hairs between the three, the straight-forward short answer is yes, Edina is affluent.

Its hard to compare the larger suburbs with one another because places like Eden Prairie has a wide range of incomes.

Edina is in a class by itself demographically. Then EP, Minnetonka, Maple Grive, Woodbury etc are in a second tier.

The median sales price for homes in Edina for Apr 7 to Jul 6 was $472,500 based on 200 home sales. Price Per Square Ft.
Average price per square foot for Edina was $296. Source Real Estate Overview for Edina, MN - Trulia

For fun, let's look at the "hood". Compton CA. The cost per square foot is about the same or $279 a square foot. See Real Estate Overview for Compton, CA - Trulia . For that matter, Scottsdale AZ is much lower @ $204 a square foot.

What's my point? There are people who have a buck in their pocket in Edina MN. Same with Scottsdale. But in reality, it is more perception of wealth versus actual wealth. Too many people are leveraged. In fact, Ham Lake MN has an average income of $92,500 (source //www.city-data.com/city/Ham-Lake-Minnesota.html . Edina (84,318) is actually lower than Ham Lake (source //www.city-data.com/city/Edina-Minnesota.html ). My point is peception isn't always reality. There are a lot of small business owners in Ham Lake for instance that make much more than a VP at fill in the blank _________ company. I know several who are multi millionares. But the perception is that the guy who drives/leases the 2016 BMW with a large mortage is wealthier. NOT! Of course there are people with deep pockets in Edina. Same in Ham Lake. But some towns don't try to impress. That's my point.

Back to Edina. There IS a portion of Edina that is to the next level (not all parts are created equal). See http://project.wnyc.org/median-incom....9115/-93.3524 . This is a VERY impressive website that shows income plots all across the county. It's worth giving it a click.

Edina: Known locally as Every Day I Need Attention.
An Edina resident will tell you, "you don't move to Edina, you earn it"! Not so much old money but new money from rising professionals not lottery winners, inheritance wealth, not for the nouveau riche.
Politically it tends to be Moderate to Liberal Democrat Elitist but a strong NIMBY attitude. They'll support more housing for low income residents as long it's not in their neighborhood.

I'd say that Edina is affluent. Eden Prairie and Eagan are basically the same thing, Chaska is more "boonies" but still relatively on the same level as EP and Eagan.

Eagan seems more middle class than Eden Prairie. The housing options and prices reflect that to a certain extent. The average income of Eden Prairie is 95,000 and the average income of Eagan is 72000. A lot of sports celebs live in Eden Prairie too.

EP is Eagan/MG/Woodbury but with the addition of Bearpath CC. The non Bearpath areas feel just like the other burbs.

Exactly. EP's reputation is inflated by basically having a "North Oaks" neighborhood where a lot of athletes live. Other than that they are all basically the same thing.
