I was in Grand Marais this past weekend. It was 45 degrees while in town on Sunday. Drove less then 5 miles up the Gunflint, was 80 degrees. I’ve never experienced this drastic temp fluctuation before. Was same in Lutsen, go from freezing to hot in less then 5 minutes.

Yes, we were camping for the long weekend up at Sawbill Landing, for 5 days, going canoeing and hiking, and the weather was really hot, and when we got down to hwy. 61 at Tofte, on the way home, like you say it was downright chilly down there. Uff-da.

It's crazy how drastic the temp difference can be. I still remember being at Grandma's marathon and while we didn't expect it to be hot, it was freezing!!!! we were standing along the sidelines of the race cheering on a friend. It was 42, raining, and windy. We had only brought jackets, and truth be told I wished I had my winter coat even though it was the MIDDLE OF SUMMER!!!!

Ah, Minnesota ...

Listening to climatologist/meteorologist Mark Seeley on MPR this morning, he noted that:

- April '18 was the second coldest on record for an entire month in Minnesota;
- while May '18 finished out as the third hottest ever on record (second warmest on record for the Twin Cities);
- the stretch of days hitting 90s was the most ever in the state on record for the month of May;

And he said that parts of the state are very dry and close to drought conditions (this, after I believe the snowiest April on record and the snowiest January-April on record).

I had the misfortune of living in Florida and that is the sweaty appendage of the US in terms of climate & geography

So have I. I miss February in FL, but they can keep April-November. Anyone who thinks that MN is hot or humid, should spend some quality time in FL (or really anywhere in the South) in late July and then re-evaluate.

I was listening to MPR this afternoon, around 2 pm. They did a weather break, with an around-the-state rundown. Mostly very warm, except for Silver Bay, where it was ... 43 F.
