I am considering a move to Minneapolis and may work in St. Louis Park. I know that this is an inner ring suburb. However, I would prefer to live in a quiet area. Does anyone have any suggestions on possible places (I will be renting by the way) to live that would be reasonable commutes but in less congested quieter areas?

Thanks

Honestly, I'd actually suggest St. Paul - it is quieter than MPLS and yet you'll still have better access to many advantages of being in the city rather than in a suburb.

The OP may work in St Louis Park, therefore St Paul would not work as a place to live.

St Louis Park and Hopkins has many places to live. St Louis Park is middle class and not too congested. Is reasonably quiet. Lots of amenities and new stuff on Excelsior Blvd for your shopping needs. The further west you go towards Minnetonka, the more wide open spaces you will find. A great place for an out of town person to start out in the Twin Cities.

I agree with lalife. St. Louis Park would be a great choice for you. It's quiet there (which is really important to me) and doesn't feel like an inner-city suburb at all. The apartments in that area are reasonable and it would sure help save money on gas.

I seriously looked at St. Louis Park myself. I'm moving next month. But, being that I work downtown and choose to not own a car right now, I wanted to be a little closer to work. Otherwise, St. Louis Park would have been my choice.

Thanks lalife When you say Hopkins - is that a suburb?

Hopkins is a suburb, yeah, and there's an OK main street with some antique shops and lousy places to eat. Looks nicer than other suburbs though.

Depending on what you consider a reasonable commute, Chaska might be a good place to look if you want to be outside of the city. I know they have a couple apartment complexes right off the park in downtown. It is a quaint city with a nice downtown area but it also has shopping on the outskirts for convenience.

Yes, Hopkins is a suburb, however it has it's own downtown too. The DT is a like living in small town America. It has everything you need; bank, grocery stores, theater, library, bars for live music, restaurants....everything !!.

Check it out if you are coming from a small town area. I think that you will love it. Minneapolis is about 5 miles east if you want big city stuff.

Actually, I am looking to buy a townhouse or condo and Hopkins is on my list. I kind of had my heart set on Eagan, however I have a white collar job and MOST of the good paying suburban white collar jobs are in the west suburbs, Minnetonka etc, plus I currently work in Minnetonka ( suburb next to Hopkins)

Check out Hopkins!!

Just curious why you think this? There are plenty of good paying, white collar jobs all over the twin cities. Some of the largest employers in the cities are actually on the eastern side of the cities, 3M being one of them.

St. Louis park has quiet areas. Why not get a place close to where you work?
