I may be pulling hairs a little here, but the average high temp. in Minneapolis is 7 to 10 degrees lower than Buffalo or Chicago in December, January, and February.

Why? The Vikings used outdoor home field advantage to win the NFC Championship 4 times. We have 0 NFC championships since moving indoors.

Yep, I think “pulling hairs”.

0 degrees in MN so indoors required.
8 degrees in Buffalo so outside is fine.

Buffalo, Green Bay and Chicago all sit against large bodies of water. That modifies the cold, particularly since said bodies of water don't fully freeze over before the conference title games each year.

Conversely, Minneapolis is a prairie river town that sits further north and west than the other three. It's definitely a more intense, crippling sort of cold.....especially if there's so much as a breath of wind accompanying it. I know because I've lived in Chicago, Boston, Detroit and even northern lower Michigan - which is also surrounded by large bodies of water - previously before moving here.

The cold in the Dakotas and Minnesota is a special kind of brutal. Definitely next level from those other spots.

The World Series in November most of the time can be reasonably comfortable in Minneapolis most years.

As to the Vikings? The NFL REGULAR season stretches into January. NO ONE, players or fans, wants to be outside involved in a football game in Minneapolis during this time of year.
Target Field is beautiful. I am not from Mn but I'm sure the weather greatly improves once we get through spring.

I lived in Seattle and building the Kingdome was the dumbest thing. Yes it is rainy in early spring but a once into early May there is not much rain for the entire summer.

They should be played on REAL grass.
