everyone keeps saying they hate the accents....? Ive been to minneapolis MANY MANY times, i have spent whole summers there and i guess i just dont hear an accent.. Maybe its because im from south dakota and i have it to? idk south dakota isnt really known for any accents but minnesota is (why.. i cant tell) it baffles me.

I know many people from the tri-state area of Minnesota, South Dakota, and Iowa. People in that region who even went to the same school often have different accents, depending on their parents' accents. The real test is how long do you say the "O" in "Dakota"? An Iowan or Nebraskan will be able to tell that you're "from up north," but the South Dakota accent is close enough to the general dialect of both the Cities and outstate Minnesota that it is very difficult to distinguish a South Dakotan from a Minnesotan.

It's all in the "O"--not a commercial for Overstock.com!!

I think that it is safe to say that a majority of those who live in MPLS originated in another state.

Anyways....

GOOD:
1-The music scene is tremendous, no matter what kind of music you are into you can find it in abundance. As well as venues.
2-Huge art scene and tons of museums of all types.
3-Kindoh.
4-Tons of locally owned, independent coffee shops.
5-Tons of events and festivals through out the year.

BAD:
1-Not being able to vote on things such as whether or not you want your tax dollars to fund new stadiums; whether or not smoking should be banned in bars; whether or not to allow wine to be sold in grocery stores.
2-The Minnesota sports fan. Sure, you LOVE the Twins, Wild, Timberwolves, and Vikings--as long as they are winning. As soon as it becomes evident that what ever pro team will not make the play-offs or win some sort of division title you treat them like lepers. Getta clue morons; you either love your team or you don't.
3-Chino Latino-probably the most over-rated, lame restaurant in the metro area.
4-Fox 9 news; they even try to scare you with the weather report-sheesh!
5-the MOA; with all of the retail space that is available in this place you'd think that there would be more diverse/better shopping options, but, there isn't.
