What is the appeal of Minneapolis/St. Paul? (high school, quality of life)

It's not just the biking in the summer, it's how great the biking can be.

I'm going to be working on a video project with a friend of mine based on a little tradition I had about 5 years ago when I was working downtown. I biked to and from work. What I thought was really cool is that I worked downtown in a large skyscraper. When I left work, I'd go to the outskirts of downtown and follow the Kenilworth Trail to Lake Cedar. From suit and tie to hopping on a bike and jumping in a relatively clean, swimmable lake was about 15 minutes.

That, I believe, is unique to Minneapolis, and a wonderful way to end the work day.

I spent a lot of time near Como Park growing up as I lived with my grandpa during the summers. He recently passed away. If not for the winters, my family would be living there. It's pretty, there's lots to do, the summers are great, education is outstanding and people are very friendly. I think the winters are a deal breaker for a lot of people who know and love Minneapolis/St. Paul and would move there otherwise.

The other reason keeping me back is statements like these: One thing that is certain, the neighborhood has gone down hill physically since the population has become mostly ethnic minority. Yes, there are many nice and hard working minorities in BC but it seems to me that unless it is Asians all demographically minority dominated neighborhoods, regardless of income, are more likely to have more social and economic problems than white neighborhoods. That is a fact. My wife is Mexican-American. Unfortunately, there still seems to be this prevailing belief about minorities in the Twin Cities

I do wish there were more lakes in the Atlanta metro. One of the reasons I tend to drive home on Cooper Lake Road a lot is to catch a glimpse of one of the few little lakes in southern Smyrna.

The best thing about Minneapolis is that it's surrounded by a huge outstate region and has freeways that make passing through to those regions really quick.

I don't think so. Most everybody who lives in the TC metro is from here.

One reason is, it's one of the few major metro areas in the US that is (seems like it anyway) recession proof. Or, recessions aren't as devestating as they are in say, Detroit.
