Even here there is only about six hours of local AM talk on one station, and maybe a few hours on one other station. As I said, I think you'll be more welcomed in the more progressive and touristy towns outside the range, as they are open to new, but I think done right (especially as you talk about getting actual locals to do the talking), you might be able to do just fine anywhere, if you can find enough population density. Good luck!
Thank you. I have a friend in Lino Lakes (Twin Cities suburb) that recommended Duluth to me sometime back.

Yes, the idea is very viable in the right place. Lots of these little stations are going on the air now as a means to provide local service now that most corporate stations offer little or no local programs. I can't throw all of my eggs into one basket though and pick just one place and shoot for it because there are too many variables that come into play such as environmental issues like Lightning in the wrong location that can lead to an EMP or direct strike that would wipe out my equipment. That happened in 2000 and cost me thousands! Other issues like population density, mom and pop businesses vs. chains nearby, the right demographic to listen, zoning in some cases despite the fact that antenna is a CB whip and more. I'll have a short list by this Summer and go through a process of elimination until one location pans out.
