No beach, but people are jumping off the bridge near Dean Parkway almost every day during the summer.

This thread brings back good childhood memories. I swam in Moore Lake and Spring Lake (Fridley, Spring Lake Park respectively when I was a child); Bass Lake near Annandale at the family cabin in the late 60's/early 70's and also Lake Minnetonka (once while living in MN and another time visiting back in 1977..I was 17). My grandmother lived in northern MN on Strait Lake near Osage but that water was almost always cold...we boated there, but I do not recall swimming.

I can't imagine anyone swimming in Lake Superior without a wet suit and the same can be said for the Pacific Ocean in northern California which is only 15 miles from where I live now.

Superior is crazy cold but when those crazy hot humid Minnesota days come around it can be done. I've heard the lake is actually warmest in late late Summer and into Fall, but I've never swam there in Fall.

The surface water temperature at Park Point Beach in Duluth (Lake Superior) is about 65-68F in August. Here's an article which shows Lake Superior getting up to 74.8F in July 2012, although that was partly a result of run-off from the June floods (as well as from the very warm spring that year):

Swimming anyone? Lake Superior water temps warmest in a century | Updraft | Minnesota Public Radio News

It was a little lower this year as the result of an opposite pattern from Spring 2012: "Spring" 2013 was bitterly cold, and April 2013 came in as the snowiest month (of any) in Duluth history. This was taken from the Wisconsin Point in Superior, WI on April 25th, 2013:
