Earliest I've ever been swimming in MN was back in High School in late April. The latest is mid-September.

Off the top of my head I can list close to thirty lakes both north and south over the years. But Pepin and most of those northern lakes have always been too cold to my liking. Swam once in Lake Superior. Once is sufficient.

I do love our MN lakes. We lived in Nebraska for five years and that was what I missed the most.

I have SWUM (not swam! It's a past participle, not the simple past) in many lakes in MN. I prefer the spring fed ones because they are cleaner. The gigantic snapping turtle in our lake scared the crap out of me this summer though. 2 and a half feet long, a foot wide. The thing could take my sons whole arm off!
